Bringing a bit of Nashville to Wareham
Some honky-tonk energy was brought to the Wareham Free Library on Monday, July 13, as residents gathered for a country concert on the lawn outside.
Attendees tapped their feet and nodded their heads as Nashville-inspired and Lakeville-raised singer-songwriter Sarah Martin sang country tunes like "Wagon Wheel," popularized by Darius Rucker and "Angel from Montgomery" by John Prine.
The concert was part of the Wareham library's summer Concerts on the Lawn series, bringing a variety of artists to perform outside the library, according to Library Director Patrick Marshall.
Marshall said this is the library's fourth year doing the concert series and that he hopes that it's become a tradition for residents to attend each summer. He added that the library's goal is to recruit acts that residents wouldn't hear elsewhere.
Martin brought some country twang to town on Monday evening. Her setlist included original songs and covers of popular country tunes.
Having grown up nearby in Lakeville, Martin's parents attended the show. She asked the audience to give her parents an applause as they made their way to the lawn. Concertgoers erupted with cheers and claps as they exited the car.
Martin has received several accolades for her music, including winning the Global Rising Song competition, Pro Country's Female Artist of the Year award and being nominated for Country Artist of the Year by the New England Music Awards. Residents packed the library's green with lawn chairs to listen to her music.
