Charles Chiodi, 82

Charles K. Chiodi, 82, of Marion and formerly of Quincy, died Jan. 5 at Sippican Health Center after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born in Sopron, Hungary, where he lived until escaping with his family at the end of the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. After settling in Massachusetts, he worked as a photojournalist for the Patriot Ledger Newspaper. Leaving there he started his own company, Chiodi Advertising, and in 1975, he founded Multihulls Magazine, which he owned and operated until he retired in 2009. However, he still continued to write and published his own books.

He enjoyed sailing, writing and most of all his bird, Concorde.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Violetta Chiodi of Middleboro; his son, Charles K. Chiodi Jr. of Fall River; his daughter, Letty Erwin and her husband Larry of Middleboro; his son, George D. Chiodi and his wife Beth of Abington; his daughter Gina Sprague of Wareham and his son, Roger M. Chiodi and his wife Robin of Pelham, New Hampshire; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Family services will be private.
