Update: Chemical explosion injures one, no immediate safety threat reported
A chemical explosion at a Wareham house injures one and Massachusetts State Police investigators from the Bomb Squad and Crime Scene Services were at the scene of the explosion for over 10 hours Friday, Oct. 3.
The explosion occurred at Aunt Maryville Lane in West Wareham and according to one neighbor, the explosion occurred inside the house. The exterior of the house and the surrounding area show no signs damage.
State Police and the Wareham Fire Department left the scene around 10 a.m. the morning of Saturday, Oct. 4.
According to State Police, the person believed to be responsible suffered non-life threatening injuries and attempted to flee the scene. State Police apprehended him and he was brought to a local hospital where he remains in custody.
State Police Bomb Technicians, the Department of Fire Services’ Joint Hazard Incident Response Team, and Wareham officials are assessing the Wareham residence for potential hazards to first responders.
The scene is secure and there is no immediate public safety threat, according to State Police.
