Clear Channel Communications is seeking to convert turn a convention billboard at 3083 Cranberry Highway into a digital billboard.

The 14-foot-by-48-foot billboard is near the Soft Touch Car Wash in East Wareham. In return for allowing conversion of the billboard, Clear Channel is offering Wareham $40,000 ayear for 25 years, totalling $1 million, as well as 10 hours of public advertising every month

"You could have Girl Scouts on one side, the Veteran's Day parade," said Clear Channel's Vice President of Real Estate, John Pelrine told Selectmen on Tuesday.

Selectman Patrick Tropeano expressed concern about how much money Clear Channel is offering the town.

"Forty-thousand dollars in 25 years isn't going to be worth anything where it is today," said Tropeano.

Selectmen expressed interest in the deal with Clear Channel. The company will head to the Zoning Board of Appeals for approval.
