CYE shows ‘Space Jam’ on the big screen

Aug 27, 2020

Community Youth Empowerment hosted a drive-in showing of Space Jam, the 90s animated classic, to a socially distanced crowd at the VFW on Thursday night.

The group came up with the idea for a drive-in movie while brainstorming family-friendly, coronavirus-safe activities.

The movie was free for everyone who drove up to one of the sixty socially-distanced spaces marked on the field behind the VFW at 4 Gibbs Ball Park Rd, and Chef Kev’s food truck was on hand with treats like linguica and fried dough for sale.

While watching the movie, families could stay in their car or sit immediately surrounding it. Some families parked with the trunk of their car facing the screen so kids could cozy up with blankets there.

The group hopes to host another drive-in movie night this fall.
