Don't Trash Wareham to participate in statewide cleanup

Sep 7, 2015

The townwide initiative Don’t Trash Wareham will be participating in the statewide COASTSWEEP cleanup in September and October.

Part of Massachusetts’s Coastal Zone Management Division, COASTSWEEP cleans up along beaches, rivers, estuaries, ponds and lakes. Last year, almost 6 tons of litter and debris were collected by 2,845 volunteers covering 136 miles. Volunteers are provided bags and gloves and recording materials to record the type of debris picked up.

Don’t Trash Wareham was started by a group of residents, in order to jump start beautification and maintain the towns of Wareham and Onset.

The cleanup will take place on the following dates, with rain dates the following days for all events:

  • Sept. 19 – Swifts Beach, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Sept. 26 – Little Harbor Beach, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Oct. 3 – Onset and Shell Point Beaches, 10 a.m

Volunteers from the Wareham Land Trust and others who have already signed up via Facebook will assist Don’t Trash Wareham. However, more volunteers are needed. In order to volunteer, or for more information, email donttrashwareham@gmail.com, or visit the Don’t Trash Wareham Facebook page.
