Firefighter almost falls through roof during house fire
A firefighter nearly fell through a roof in the afternoon of Friday, March 20 while battling a two-alarm house fire at 4 Dusty Lane in Onset.
There were no people inside the home during the fire. Firefighters worked to save a dog who was still inside the home. Onset Assistant Fire Chief Howard Andersen said that the dog did not survive its injuries after being rescued.
While trying to cut a hole in the roof to ventilate the heat and smoke, the hole in the roof broke under a firefighter and he almost fell through. The firefighter was uninjured.
Andersen said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“At this time the fire remains under investigation by our department along with Wareham police assisted by the state marshall's office,” he said.
The Onset, Wareham, Marion, Plymouth, Bourne, Carver and Joint Base Cape Cod fire departments all responded to the call.
