Fund created for family who lost everything in fire
Last Sunday’s blaze at Lakeside Trailer Park destroyed two homes and left at least one family with almost nothing but the clothes on their back.
Crystal Marks and her two children lost their home in the fire that also destroyed their neighbor's trailer, and partially melted a trailer across the dividing road in the East Wareham park. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Fatima Chandler, Marks’ mother, decided to set up a donation fund through Rockland Trust for her daughter and grandchildren. Save for a few articles of clothing, Marks and her children lost everything in the fire.
“I put myself in her shoes, and I was just devastated,” Chandler said. “I couldn’t breathe, just knowing my grandkids have no place to live.”
Chandler said her grandchildren are currently going to friends’ houses, but that she wants them to get settled into a new place before school starts.
“I can’t imagine going from here to there, with no place to live,” Chandler said. “I live two houses down from [the trailer that burned], and when the wind blows, I can smell it. It’s a constant reminder, 24 hours a day.”
Chandler said anyone who wishes to donate to Marks and her family can go to any Rockland Trust and ask to put money into an account for Crystal Marks.
“We would be so grateful to people to help her out,” Chandler said. “She lost everything, and I want her to get the help she needs.”
