Gleason Family Y hosts 'Fun With Color'
Free family fun was the goal for the Gleason Family YMCA's second annual "Fun With Color" run on Saturday afternoon.
Children were able to run around the gym while getting colorful crushed chalk powder thrown at them, and later, they were covered with silly string outside.
"The idea was the color run was for children ages 8 and up because of the breathing in the chalk but we didn't want the little ones to be left out," said Maria Golemo, membership director at the Y and organizer of the event. "So I thought, 'hmm, who doesn't love getting sprayed with silly string?'"
Golemo's three granddaughters participated in the event, getting color all over their faces and posing for pictures with silly string all over them.
Last year, there were around three participants. This year, there were approximately 30.
Golemo thinks with more advertising the event could be bigger next year. The event was put on this year by several workers at the Y.
"Everybody has chipped in and given their time for me just to make it a happy day," she said.
