The Groovalottos bring the funk to Onset
The bunker at the Onset VFW is about to give Wareham a dose of old school funk and soul when the award-winning band, The Groovalottos perform on April 25.
The Groovalottos are an award-winning trio of touring and studio musicians and vocalists, performing a blend of classic and original soul, funk and blues.
The Groovalottos feature Eddie Ray Johnson on drums and vocals; Chris "Redbone" Sweeting on bass and vocals; and Mwalim on keys and vocals. They are the winners of the 2014 and 2015 Silver Arrow Awards, and band keyboardist, Mwalim, is the 2010, 2012, and 2014 winner of the New England Urban Music Award for "Best Male Jazz Artist".
The Groovalottos perform monthly on the second Saturday at Gilda's Stone Rooster in Marion, and spent much of last summer performing throughout the Northeast and Mid Atlantic regions. They were headliners for the 2014 Boston Jazz Fest, as well as the Springfield Soul Festival. They were also the inaugural band for the first gathering of the National Congress of Black American Indians in Washington, District of Columbia, last July.
The show at the VFW starts at 9 p.m. The Onset VFW is located at 4 Gibbs Ball Park Road.
