Heartbreaking loss for Vikings as Sandwich makes improbable comeback
Things were looking good as halftime approached.
The Vikings had scored on their first two possessions of the game on Friday night, with a 52-yard Ian Searles-to-Matt-Pimental pass and an 80-yard run by Charles Tranfaglia. And the home crowd was enthusiastic as the clocked ticked down to halftime with the Vikings leading up 22-0 over the Sandwich Blue Knights.
Things changed quickly, however.
Late in the second half, Sandwich substituted Zack Wagner in as quarterback. With 21 seconds remaining before the break, the Blue Knights got on the board with a 13-yard run.
In the third quarter, the Blue Knights picked up just where they left off - scoring in their next four possessions and racking up 36 points for a 36-28 victory. Wagner and receiver Justin Morris led the offense with 66-yard and a 55-yard passes for touchdowns.
The loss brings the Vikings to 1-6 on the season.
