Holly, jolly and slightly soggy Christmas parade rolls through town

Dec 7, 2014

Despite the wet weather hundreds of residents came out to both march and watch in the Wareham Village Association's annual Christmas Parade Saturday afternoon.

The parade was led by the Wareham Police and Fire Departments and students from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

Behind them were dozens of holiday floats put together by local groups and organizations. There were reindeer costumes, grinch costumes, Christmas trees, nativity scenes, plenty of red and green and candy canes everywhere.

Bringing up the rear of the parade and garnering the loudest cheers was a float carrying Santa Claus himself.

The next holiday event for the Wareham Village Association is the return of the holiday trains on Sunday, Dec. 28.

Train rides from Wareham Village to Buzzards Bay (and back) will take place on Dec. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Trains will depart every 90 minutes.

Families can sing along with Christmas carols and enjoy Christmas decorations and the company of elves while the train chugs along the track through Wareham. Afterwards, post-ride festivities will be available on Main Street.
