John Edgar Parisi, 86
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Edgar Parisi, age 86. John, originally of Onset, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He was born September 22, 1939, in Worcester, Massachusetts, the son of Carl (Carmine) and Helen (Beal) Parisi, of Onset. John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra G. Parisi, his son Joseph, son Antonio, his wife Barbara, and their two children, Carl and Samantha.
John was a Vietnam era veteran who served his country honorably as a morse code Intercept operator with the United States Air Force from 1960-1962 in the Asia-Pacific theatre.
John was a graduate of Wareham high school and later attended Clark University and the Northeastern Broadcasting School. Throughout his life, John had a passion for the science of Meteorology. He turned that passion into a successful radio and television broadcasting career that spanned four decades. John began his career in broadcasting at KSBK radio in the early 1960s in Naha, Okinawa, Japan (then the only English-speaking radio station on the island) where he served as both station manager and the on-air radio disc jockey personality known as “Jay Sherwood.” Later, John returned to his beloved Wareham, where he became known as one of the the best on-air weather forecasters in the New Bedford and Boston broadcasting markets. He also enjoyed performing as sports commentator at many Wareham high school football games.
John will be greatly missed and remembered forever.
As was John’s wish, a private memorial service celebrating his exceptional life will be held at a future date at the Massachusetts Military Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts.
