Key Club members spruce up Wareham Free Library

Oct 22, 2016

Some high schoolers spent their Saturday morning cleaning up the inside and outside of the Wareham Free Library.

Members from the Wareham High School's Key Club cleaned the windows and tables of the library, weeded the garden behind the building and painted parts of the building for a community service project.

"It's always nice to help our community out any way you can," said member Emily Kauranen.

Fellow member Victoria Crockett agreed.

"That's what our club is about," said Crockett.

The community service-based organization began three years ago at the high school. Key Club Advisor Lt. Col. Matthew Stanton said there has been a tremendous turnout from students ever since it began.

"It started with the initiative of some eager students at the school," said Stanton. "They were really seeking an outlet to help the community and they found it."

Two weeks ago, students were at the Cranberry Harvest Festival. The students are currently hosting their annual fundraising campaign to help eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus.

The campaign began on Oct. 12 and will run until Oct. 28. The club's goal is to raise $300 from collecting change.
