NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
In accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. Chapter 40A, §5, The Wareham Planning Board will hold a public hearing on September 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in Room 520 of the Wareham Multi Service Center, 48 Marion Road, Wareham, MA 02571 to consider a citizen’s petition, submitted by Alan Slavin, for a proposed amendment to the Town of Wareham’s Zoning By-Law.
The amendment proposes to modify Section 950-Off-Site Parking, by adding a new sub-section 952A under Section 952-Proximity and would read as follows:
“The number of public parking spaces within three eights (3/8th) of a mile of a business location shall be counted in determining whether a business in an “eligible area” satisfies applicable minimum parking requirements. Eligible areas are: Onset village from the intersection of West Boulevard and Onset Avenue to the intersection of East Boulevard and Onset Avenue, Wareham Village from 505 Main Street to the intersection of Main Street and Warr Avenue, and 1 Narrows Road to 7 Narrows Road, or to do or act in any manner relative there to.”
The purpose of this proposed amendment is to allow businesses to count public parking spaces toward their required parking spaces for their seating capacity determined by building square footage. This would allow the development of more businesses in areas where it is constrained because of existing parking requirement minimums.
A copy of the proposed zoning amendment is on file with the Town Clerk and the Select Board and may be reviewed during office hours.
This hearing is open to the public, and any person may appear and speak for or against this proposed amendment.
