Man arrested for domestic disturbance

Shawn Poppish, 42, of 8 Union Ave. in Onset was arrested on charges related to a domestic disturbance Tuesday, August 1, at approximately 1 a.m., according to Wareham Police.

A woman approached one of Onset's bicycle patrol officers to report that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend at an Onset residence. According to police reports, Poppish was hiding from police inside the apartment when they located him.

Poppish allegedly gave police false information about his identity, and allegedly became combative with police. Poppish was "subdued and restrained" by police at the scene, and placed under arrest, according to Wareham Police.

Poppish has three outstanding warrants in Massachusetts and for warrants out of Maine, police said.

Poppish was arraigned in Wareham District Court on Tuesday on charges of domestic assault and battery, malicious destruction of property, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer (two counts), furnishing a false name to police, and being a fugitive from justice.
