Manuel Evora, Jr., 72, of Onset died December 17 in St. Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Joyce M. (Martin) Evora and the son of the late Manuel Evora, Sr. and Florence (Tavares) Evora.

He was born on February 1, 1939 in Providence, RI and lived in Onset for many years. He graduated from Wareham High School, Class of 1957.

His lifelong dream was to be a news correspondent, but instead he worked as a technician at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth for many years before retiring.

He was passionate about his family. He loved his children and adored his grandchildren. He was happiest spending time with them. He loved sports. Most importantly, he was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce M. (Martin) Evora; loving son Eric Martin of Onset, son Mark Evora of Wareham, son Jeffrey Evora of Fall River, son Todd Evora of Bronx, NY, son Shawn Evora of TX and son Joey Monteiro of FL, Charles Amado of Wareham; his loving daughter Yvonne Martin of Onset, loving daughter, Margaret Evora Tabois of Southport, CT, daughter Denise Freeman of RI, daughter Dolly Evora of Middletown, CT and daughter Joyce Fernandes of East Wareham; his brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Cardoza of Fairhaven, Ronald Cardoza of Clearwater, FL; his sisters Marie Cardoza of Boston, Laurie Evora and Olivia Evora both of Pawtucket, RI; and Daniel DeMoranville of Buzzards Bay who was like a son. He was adored by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons, Manuel Evora, III and Derek Evora, as well as his brothers Wilson Cardoza, Dennis Cardoza and Ernie Perry.

His funeral will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
