Marjorie Elizabeth Clark, 85

Dec 4, 2012

Marjorie Elizabeth (Johnson) Clark passed away suddenly on Nov. 22 at Newfield House in Plymouth, where she had been lovingly cared for the past 4 years, at the age of 85.

She was the beloved wife of the late W. Gordon Clark, to whom she was married for 54 years. Marjorie was the daughter of the late Eliot C. and Elizabeth Johnson and brother of the late Eliot C. Johnson, Jr.

She was born February 19, 1927, in Quincy, where she graduated Quincy High School, attended Katherine Gibbs School, and after marriage, was a stay-at-home mom in Quincy, where Gordon’s family business, The Vulcan Company, was located.

Marjorie and Gordon moved to Marshfield Hills in 1966 to a home they built and resided in for several years before moving to Scituate. Her great joy was time spent in their Quechee, Vermont home, where she enjoyed cross country skiing, water aerobics, knitting, exploring the countryside, and overnights in B&Bs. Fifty summers were spent at their home at Little Harbor Beach, Wareham, where she relished her time at the beach and time spent with her grandchildren. Her passion was cooking and the enjoyment she knew it brought family and friends.

She and Gordon traveled extensively, both in this country and around the world. Just prior to Gordon’s death, they announced they had seen everything on their bucket list. After Gordon’s passing, Marjorie moved to The Village at Duxbury, where she resided for 8 years before moving to Newfield House as her health declined.

Marjorie is survived by her loving children, Alexander G. Clark and his wife Anne Davis (Lord) of Norwell, and Nancy Elizabeth (Clark) Edwards and her husband Lawrence of Wareham; grandchildren Alexander G. Clark, Jr. of Kingston, Elizabeth Lord (Clark) Cook and her husband Brad of Texas, Megan Elizabeth (Edwards) Yelton and her husband Jerett of CT, Sarah Clark Edwards and her finance Cord Kenyon of CT. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, who gave her such joy when they visited the last year of her life: John Alexander (Jack) and Davis William Cook of Texas, and Madelyn (Maddy) Elizabeth Yelton of CT.

A private service and burial was held Nov. 24, with immediate family present. Gifts in her memory may be made to the South Shore YMCA Camp Gordon Clark Scholarship Fund, 79 Coddington Street, Quincy, MA 02169, or to the Gleason Family YMCA Scholarship Fund attention JoAnn Watson, 33 Charge Pond Road, Wareham, MA 02571.
