Middle schoolers rewarded with mechanical pig races

Pigs aren't generally known as fast, but at Wareham Middle School, they race them.

Every year on the day before Thanksgiving, Wareham Middle School holds their annual Pig Race, where students race mechanical pigs for things like gifts cards and other prizes.

Select students from grades five through eight are chosen by the PTA for their fundraising efforts over the course of the year, and then have the opportunity to race the fuzzy little pigs for prizes.

"It's something we do for the children for working so hard," said PTA organizer Sarah Lima.

Top sellers for the school were Jeremy Smith ($524), Hannah Schulze ($508), Courtney Osbourne ($506.50), Vincent Tamburrini II ($428.50), and Julia Pomerleau ($403.50).
