A night of nostalgia, fun, and groovy good times
With large-rimmed glasses and 70s music blasting by the shore, dancers from across the community moved toward the stage to hit the disco.
Each summer, the Onset Bay Association hosts a free concert series featuring a different band every Wednesday night until Aug. 27. Executive Director of the Onset Bay Association, Kat Jones, said that the organization has been putting on concerts since 2008.
The 2025 season kicked off on June 25 for a groovy time with a variety of disco and funk songs from “That 70s Band." The event also included a "Mrs. Roper's Romp," which saw a sea of red-haired mumu wearing dancers from popular 70s show, "Three's Company." in the pit.
The concert saw hundreds fill the space Onset Bandshell, bringing countless familiar faces from around town to bop to hits from the past.
Jones said that the event provides the community with a space to come together and enjoy the ocean view alongside dozens of local vendors. Food trucks and craft tents lined the sidewalks as guests came to vibe.
“I love that we can all just come together for a couple hours and forget about our cares and that the world is blowing up," she said. "We’re just here with our first world problems and it’s beautiful."
For many attending, the concerts are not only fun, but convenient.
Bruce Rossiter, an Onset local, explained how he walks to the concerts from his residence, and that he noticed his neighbors do the same.
“We enjoy it," he said. "Look at the view— the people. You're supporting your local people. It’s nice.”
Morgan Ayteh, singer in “That 70s Band” believed the sunshine to be the reason for the packed park. Having previously performed at the Summer of Love concerts, she said the guests were in for a good time.
“The weather looks like it's brought a lot of people out to have some fun. We’re gonna get groovy, we’re gonna rock and roll,” Ayteh.
