Onset Village bandshell structural renovations are complete

Jul 2, 2022

The town’s structural renovations of the Lillian Gregerman Bandshell Bandshell in Onset are now complete, the Onset Bay Association announced on Friday, July 1.

“A HUGE, HEARTFELT THANK YOU goes out to Dave Menard and the Crew from Wareham Municipal Maintenance, the electricians, and the powers that be, for getting this done in no time, and doing an outstanding job, at that,” the association posted on Facebook Friday.

The bandshell, located at 4 Union Ave. near the Onset Pier, saw renovations begin earlier this summer. Town Meeting approved the expenditure of about $333,000 in Community Preservation funds to replace the bandshell in 2018, though officials later decide to refurbish the structure as replacement costs were skyrocketing.

Onset Bay Association executive Director Kat Jones said the bandshell is ready for its first concert, slated for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, and for festivals in the future.

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan has recently said that the structure should be solid enough to last for about four more decades.

The work was largely completed by municipal maintenance crews, who replaced wooden extensions of the stage with concrete, painted railings, added supports and restored rotted areas of the structure.

Sullivan has said that after the summer, there’s still work ahead on the bandshell’s seating area to increase ADA compliance.
