Opinion: Curbside pick-up prompts cost concerns

Aug 3, 2020
To the Editor:
First, I'd like to say that I totally agree with Fred Reynolds in the July 9 Wareham Week opinion on the solar proposal being placed on existing open space.

Also Mitch Kirkland's letter on waste disposal. So, what is going on with the Route 28 transfer station, anyway?

I'm a senior citizen living on a strict income. According to the July 29 article in Wareham Week bids for curbside trash and recycle, the proposal will be for 2 huge containers for each household.  I don't produce enough trash to fill these every week, maybe even every other week. I'm also very worried about any increases in property tax bills. I am sure there are other seniors that may feel the same way.

I had called the Selectmen's office on July 2 in reference to the July 1 curbside article to talk about a pay as you throw proposal (bags not trash barrels). I left a message but did not get a return call.

I sure hope Wareham and Carver can work out a solution and consider the transfer station possibility. The one on Route 28 has everything: Trash, Recycle, Metal, Cardboard.
