To the Editor:

Today’s climate toward anyone in law enforcement is at times discouraging, and sometimes not without merit.

However, I want to pass along something positive for one of Wareham’s Finest, and I mean Finest, with the utmost respect.

On Friday, May 12, my wife and I were helping a homeless couple that had run out of gas. When I arrived with a gas can, the husband was missing. He went looking for someone to help them, not knowing we had spoken with his wife and were on the way.

While adding gas from my gas can, Officer Aaron Pacheco showed up with the husband and a full gas can, which Pacheco purchased. This was also added to the tank. Pacheco then left the area for a few moments. When he returned, he told the couple, and a third passenger in their car, that he had spoken with a local restaurant.

He told the restaurant to expect the three, and that he would be back to square up the bill. He stayed around to ensure these folks were all set. He showed genuine concern for these folks, which is both refreshing and encouraging.

Truly a gentleman, and a credit to the Wareham Police Department!
