Opinion: Protect your pets, yourself while driving

Mar 15, 2021

To the Editor:
I was compelled to write this letter in the hopes of sending two very important messages to all who read this and beyond.

On Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at approximately 3 p.m., I was heading home with my beautiful chihuahua Mollie who was in the back seat in her car carrier on Rte. 25 in Wareham, right before Exit 3. I was in the right lane doing 60 mph with my blinker on, signaling I was turning, when out of nowhere, some car rear-ended me at 90 mph.

To say that Mollie and me were lucky to survive this horrific accident is an understatement.

What saved Mollie was her car carrier, so I strongly urge all pet owners to either put a seatbelt on their dog or keep them in a carrier. If she wasn’t in that, she would have been killed. We wear seatbelts, so why shouldn’t we do the same for our animals to keep them safe!

My other message is to not speed no matter where you are going.

Thank you to Bob White of Wareham and Stan Orlowski of Rochester for their continuous support.

Mollie and I are truly grateful and blessed to be alive.
