Opinion: Thank you to essential workers

Sep 22, 2020

To the Editor:

It is all too often we as a community don’t take time to reflect and say THANK YOU to all our public safety personnel and, shall we not forget during these very different and trying times, our essential workers, including the MEDIA.

On September 11, 2020 at 6 p.m. gathered in the parking lot of the Wareham-New Bedford Lodge of Elks #73 with a fall-like crisp in the air, the Lodge celebrated a belated Flag Day Ceremony.  Traditionally celebrated on the actual date in June, the date was moved due to the pandemic that is changing our lives more than we know.

With the Wareham Fire Department providing a backdrop of OLD GLORY billowing in the breeze as it hangs from the Ladder on their Ladder 1, entering guests were treated to a very somber albeit proud celebration of the history of our Flag.

The point of our letter to the editor today is to demonstrate the dedication of all public safety personnel outlined above and let them know they are appreciated on a daily basis.  However, this shouldn’t overshadow the celebration of the Flag but be in concert with all the Men & Women in our armed services and all those that make America the best country in the world.

Thank you all for all you do, with much appreciation and gratitude,

Teddy & Helen Hatch
