Public comments sought on transportation planning, bus signs

May 23, 2024

A virtual public meeting and a public comment period are scheduled for regional transportation projects including 740 updated signs at regional bus stops.

The Southeastern Regional Transit Authority, SRTA, is planned to receive 740 new bus stop signs. These will include a decal of the bus route as well as QR codes which will show real-time information about bus locations and arrivals.

This improvement will be funded through an amendment to the fiscal year 2025 to 2029 Transportation Improvement Plan, which is a document listing all federally funded road and bridge projects in the region. It has the overall goal of improving the reliability and accessibility of taking the bus. The project is being proposed by the Southeastern Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Additionally, the Organization is releasing its Unified Planning Work Program for the next fiscal year. The program will be undertaken by Organization staff at the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District.

Projects in the plan include: phase two of a regional evacuation route study, a healthy food access plan, a regional freight plan update, planning around electric vehicles and a parking lot utilization assessment.

The goal of the Organization’s work is to build a more safe, equitable, connected, reliable and resilient transportation system, according to a press release.

A virtual public meeting on the proposed amendment and draft plan will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 4 p.m. The direct link to the public meeting is: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89463267976?pwd=WXlHMmVVVGY2NFZwYVdHY3RhSUNmZz09
