Selectmen deny collection bin applications

Selectmen unanimously voted to deny applications for collection bins that they said are a nuisance at six locations on Tuesday night.

The applications were filed by Green Quest and Planet Aid, two companies that accept clothes on behalf of those in need.

"Bin owners have not been as forthcoming as the secondhand store individuals despite repeated attempts at getting them to apply," said Chair Judith Whiteside. "Regularly when I drive through town... virtually every collection bin in town is surrounded by junk."

Selectman Peter Teitelbaum was concerned about the condition of the application and found it difficult to accept.

"It appears that the signatures have been altered, whited out, copied over, unclear," he said.

Additionally, Health Agent Bob Ethier submitted a report on the bins at Whiteside's request that wasn't favorable.

All of these factors led to the Selectmen's decision.
