Teitelbaum appointed chair in board reorganization

Apr 10, 2013

Following the outcome of the April 2 election, a new Board of Selectmen met Tuesday, and that meant a reorganization of the board.

The board voted to appoint Peter Teitelbaum as its new chair. Selectman Alan Slavin will serve as Clerk.

Former Chair Steve Holmes said he'd hoped the board would have gone with Alan Slavin, or with one of the newly elected Selectman -- Patrick Tropeano or Judy Whiteside -- because Teitelbaum is the "most junior member of the board."

Holmes also said there are some "trust issues" he has with Teitelbaum, and said he "wasn't happy with his behavior toward Mrs. Winslow."

Holmes didn't elaborate on what that "behavior" was.

Both Tropeano and Whiteside have previous experience serving as Selectmen, Tropeano from 2002 to 2005, and Whiteside in the early 1980s, when her last name was "Montminy."

Whiteside said that she would not have accepted the nomination had it been offered to her, while Tropeano pointed out that while he's served on a past board, he is new to this one.

"I have some catching up to do, no matter what my experience," said Tropeano.

Toward the close of the meeting, Selectman Alan Slavin suggested that the board find a way to thank outgoing Selectman Cara Winslow for her three years of service, noting that working a full-time job, raising a child, and serving as a Selectman is no small feat.
