Tigers cheer teams pounce on first, second place in U.S. Finals

The Wareham Tigers Pride and Spirit cheerleading teams came in first and second place, respectively, at the U.S. Finals in Worcester last weekend.

The performances capped a season of victories in Maryland, Connecticut and Boston, among other places.

During their performance, the Pride team “hit zero,” meaning that the team had zero points docked from its score due to errors.

A Sunday, April 23 Facebook post by Wareham Tigers Cheer Athletics said that the Spirit team, for girls up to age 12, and the Pride team, for more experienced girls up to age 18, faced many challenges on their path to the finals.

“We had an athlete that was definitely under the weather,” the post read, “but she knew her team needed her for just two minutes and 30 seconds. Another athlete has been nursing an injury, but refused to let it keep her off the mat for her team.”

Wareham Tigers Cheer Athletics President Damon Solomon praised the commitment of the teams’ coaches.

“The coaches have done a lot,” Solomon said. “It’s been a long season, and they’ve had ups and downs. Both teams had to go through a lot to get to where they are today. Both teams stuck together and did their best.”
