Town receives $4 million for sewer upgrades and maintenance
Wareham received a check for $4,036,843.53 from the Plymouth County Commissioner as a part of the American Rescue Plan Act at the Dec. 17 Select Board meeting.
The American Rescue Plan Act was introduced to provide economic support to cities and towns as a result of the pandemic and Select Board Chair Judith Whiteside said the money “has been committed” to upgrades and maintenance to the sewer system.
Plymouth County County Commissioner Jared Valanzola presented the check to the Select Board along with Senator Elect Kelly Dooner and said Wareham received more money than similarly sized communities.
"The town of Wareham received 50% more dollars than a like-sized community outside of Plymouth County," said Valanzola.
Whiteside added that the town has been working with the county for many years to figure out how they will spend the money but this is the first and only American Rescue Plan Act check the town will receive.
