Trick-or-treaters take over Main Street

Trick-or-treaters streamed down Main Street Friday afternoon, for the Wareham Village Association's Main Street trick-or-treating event.

David Costa and his staff at Costa Chiropractic joked that they were hoping to see at least one kid in a skeleton costume to offer some realignment of the spine.

Rose Berry of Eastern Bank said she had a tie for the best costume in the bank's costume contest.

“One was a centaur from "Harry Potter", the other was a Sharknado,” Berry said, referring to the Syfy cult hit "Sharknado".

Tracy McGraw of  the association noted that “more and more people come out and participate each year."

It's a great, safe alternative and it brings the community together," McGraw said.

Wareham Fire Chief Robert McDuffy said that, for him, safety is one of the best things about the yearly Main Street event.

“It's nice to have all the kids out to the center of town," McDuffy said. "Kids have a ball. We give out educational handbooks, we give out hats, and candy.”

Melissa Backlund came with her son Nicholas dressed as Optimus Prime from "Transformers", and her daughter Kayley as a witch.

“It's a good way to have some extra fun for the kids,” Backlund said.

Taryn Powdrell brought her daughter Rhylen dressed as Merida from "Brave". She said she likes the Main Street trick-or-treating because it's an extra Halloween event.

“It's nice to get an opportunity to wear the costume you've bought for them more than once,” Powdrell said.
