Wareham drivers 'stuff-a-bus' for families in need
When Wareham Public Schools bus drivers heard Turning Point’s annual holiday drive might be struggling, they sped into action.
“We heard the drive was low on toys for needy families so we decided to step up and stuff a bus,” said Marie Ferreira.
On Friday afternoon, she and other drivers collected donations for their first “Stuff-A-Bus” drive. Throughout the afternoon, residents stopped by with new, unwrapped toys, gift cards and non-perishable food for donations.
Turning Point is an all-volunteer social service agency that provides housing assistance, heat and utility bill assistance, access to emergency food and clothing, baby items and employment information to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
Lori Ellis, another driver, noted that this was first time the drive was held, but it wouldn’t the last.
“This is the first of many,” she said.
