Wareham housing developments will receive state, federal aid

Two housing developments in Wareham — the 93-unit housing complex at Littleton Drive and the 150-unit Woodland Cove housing development at the intersection of Red Brook Road and Cranberry Highway — will receive federal and state tax credits and subsidies through the Affordable Rental Housing Program.

The tax credit and subsidization will support the creation of 107 new units for low-income seniors and families in need, according to a press release from State Sen. Marc Pacheco.

“The new housing developments selected will greatly benefit from federal and state support and will ultimately help reduce the effects of financial difficulty and deep poverty in our local community,” Pacheco said.

When completed, the Littleton Drive complex will include 44 affordable one-bedroom units, which the press release said would be “reserved for local low-income seniors, including seniors transitioning out of homelessness.” Similarly, Woodland Cove will offer 63 units for low-income families, nine of which will be reserved for families earning less than 30 percent of the area’s median income, according to the release.
