Wareham Police arrested a 27-year-old Wareham man after recovering firearms and illegal drugs from his Swifts Beach Road home during the early morning hours of September 29. It was the department's sixth drug-related search this month.

Police arrested Paul Dugas of 35 Swifts Beach Road after investigations into the sale of illegal drugs and firearms and an investigation of Wareham-area house breaks led them to his home, according to a Wareham Police press release.

After executing a search warrant at the location, police found a .32 caliber handgun, a holster, and handgun ammunition, as well as plastic bags containing cocaine, approximately 40 Percocet pills, and more than $2,000 in cash, police said.

Property believed to have been stolen during area break-ins, including electronic game systems, a television set, and computer items were also recovered, according to police.

A second search warrant related to the investigation was executed for a vehicle parked at 36 Swifts Beach Road at the Woods at Wareham apartment complex. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded .40 caliber handgun was recovered, according to police.

Dugas was charged with: Possession of a firearm without proper identification, possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm after three prior violent crimes, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of Percocet with the intent to distribute, and receiving stolen property.

Wareham Police were assisted by the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council SWAT unit.

Police Chief Richard Stanley praised the work of his department and reiterated that "undesirables such as drug dealers, thieves, and those legally possessing firearms are not only unwelcome in Wareham, but will be rooted out and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
