Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood has announced that all Wareham Schools will be closed for one week due to the threat of the coronavirus.

She will continue to re-assess the situation and notify families of her decision about reopening schools by next Friday, March 20.

In a letter posted to the school district website, Shaver-Hood wrote that she made the decision for the “health and safety of our school community.” 

“I realize this may create a difficult situation for some families and for this I am sorry,” Shaver-Hood wrote. “My decision is based on keeping our students and staff as healthy as possible.”

Those with concerns are asked to contact Dr. Shaver-Hood directly or get in touch with the principal of their student’s school.

Bagged breakfasts and lunches will be distributed between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at the following sites: Wareham Middle School, the Onset Bandshell, Gleason Family YMCA, Woods at Wareham, Swifts Beach Playground, Brandy Hill, Shangri La Playground, Decas Elementary School, and the West Wareham School. 

All students are welcome to pick up meals. The meal service will begin on Monday, March 16, and continue “until we return to school or until further notice.”
