Wareham soldier honored by Board of Selectmen

Oct 23, 2012

The Selectmen on October 19 presented U.S. Army First Class Private Jonele Westgate with a plaque inscripted with a proclamation honoring Westgate for her service in the U.S. Army.

Westgate, who serves in the 82nd Airborne Division, is currently home from Afghanistan on leave after serving overseas for a year.

When she returned on October 9, Westgate surprised her younger brother, Logan, in his third-grade classroom at John W. Decas Elementary. For that story, click here.

Military service is a tradition in Westgate's family.  Her father served in the Army National Guard and her grandfather served in Korea. Her great-grandfather landed on Omaha beach on D-Day during World War II.
