Worcester man identified as victim in Sunday's drowning
Police have identified the man who fell overboard and drowned near Bird Island Sunday as 65-year-old Ronald Josephson of Worcester.
Josephson’s body was recovered approximately one hour after his wife radioed the Coast Guard for help. The couple left from a Onset marina in their powerboat.
According to Marion police, Josephson attempted to fix a bumper on the side of the boat when he lost his balance.
He was not wearing a life jacket, police said. Seas were four feet high and choppy while the southwest winds blew 15 mph at the time of the accident.
During the search, Marion police and fire crews responded alongside the Buzzards Bay Task Force, Wareham, Bourne and Mattapoisett harbormasters, the Coast Guard, New Bedford Fire and state and environmental police.
Josephson’s wife was brought ashore for the search. At 2:32 p.m., Marion police said a passing boater found the body. A member of the Coast Guard performed CPR on Josephson at a command site set up at the end of Converse Road. Josephson was then transported to Tobey Hospital in Wareham by Marion EMS. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
