Stop & Shop donates $500 worth of food to Damien's Pantry to kick off Peapod service
Stop & Shop in East Wareham announced the arrival of its Peapod grocery home delivery service by donating $500 worth of food to Damien's Pantry on Thursday, May 23.
Peapod is a service that allows customers to order food online at home, and have groceries brought to them in their cars.
"It helps out really busy career families," said Pick-up Operations Manager Donna Gallagher.
Father Gabriel Healy of Damien's Pantry said the donation was very much appreciated, as the pantry needs all the food it can get, year-round.
There is an abundance of giving around the holidays, but that can slow down during the rest of the year.
"That will assist us in helping the people we serve," said Healy, noting that Damien's Pantry helps 740 to 900 people per month, depending on the season.
"In summers, it's more, because the kids are out of school," so parents don't have school lunches to count on every day, said Healy.
Paul Anesti has worked with Damien's Pantry for approximately 10 years and said the donation was just what the pantry needed.
"Everything we're getting today is on our wishlist," said Anesti.
