Bourne Scallop Festival begins
More than 6,000 pounds of scallops are expected to be consumed by more than 50,000 visitors at this weekend's annual Bourne Scallop Festival in Buzzards Bay Park. On Friday, the festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, click here.

"Life of Pi" at Wareham Free Library
The Wareham Free Library will host a screening of the film, "Life of Pi," on Saturday, September 21, from 12 from 3 p.m.
The film is based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel, and follows the adventures of a kid named Pi Patel. Pi is the son of a zookeeper, and his family is shipwrecked when trying to move to Canada.
The screening will be followed by a brief discussion of the book and the movie.
Tastes & Sounds of Mexico
MA Children's Relief will host the Taste & Sounds of Mexico on Saturday, September 21, at 6:30 p.m. at Salerno's Seaside Function Hall in Onset.
Tickets cost $35 in advance of the event or $40 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the evening of the event. Proceeds benefit the Turning Point Day Resource Center in Wareham, which assists the homeless and near-homeless, as well as Guyon Rescue, a New York-based organization that assists victims of Hurricane Sandy and the Oklahoma tornados.
The event features an 18-dish, Mexican-themed buffet presented in three courses. Each guest receives a goodie bag, ticket for door prizes, and a program book with the evening's recipes and Mexican culinary and cultural information.
A silent auction with items from Mexico as well as culinary and hand-crafted items will be held.

Sunday, September 22
Decas Elementary playground build
Volunteers are needed to complete the final phase of the John W. Decas Elementary playground on Sunday. Work begins at 7 a.m. at the school, located at 760 Main Street.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Children will not be permitted in the area of the build. For more information, contact Jenn MacKerron at the school at 508-291-3530.
Health fair at St. Patrick's
The annual Health Fair will be held at St. Patrick's Parish, 82 High Street, on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Free health screenings will be provided, along with free testing and health information. Families are welcome, and there will be activities for the kids.

Elks Penny Sale
The Wareham Lodge of Elks will host its Fabulous Fall Fun Day Penny Sale on Sunday, September 22, at 11 a.m.
Attendees purchase raffle tickets to win a variety of new and gently-used items, as well as gift cards.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Elks' Community and Social Welfare Account, which provides funding for scholarships and donations to charities.
Chemo Caps 4 Kids fundraiser
This year's Chemo Caps 4 Kids fundraiser will be held on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Firehouse Cafe in Onset.
The cost is $10 per person, which includes knitting supplies, light refreshments, and a raffle. Attendees knit caps to be donated to children who are undergoing cancer treatment that causes hair loss.
The event is held in memory of Hailey Jean Pease, an 8-year-old Wareham resident who lost her battle with leukemia in 2011. Proceeds benefit the Kids Kickin' Cancer Foundation.
