Wareham students feel the spotlight at video awards

Sixteen students from Wareham High School's video production and AV Club classes recently attended a statewide video competition, with one student taking home an award.

The M.O.V.E Awards are an annual ceremony where high schools across Massachusetts compete for video excellence awards based on peer voting at the event. The schools that attended this year were: Wareham, Taunton, New Bedford, Dartmouth, Quincy, Middleboro, Barnstable, Plymouth North, Plymouth South, Duxbury and Fairhaven.

Wareham entered the categories of short, documentary, music, commercial, animation, and sports. Recently graduated senior Michaela Bottino, achieved second place for her “Relationship Abuse” video that was entered into the short category.

“It was definitely an honor to receive the award but it wasn't all me," Bottino said. "Mr. Fernandes, Mr. Tricker and A.V. Club taught me a lot. Also, without any cast or crew it wouldn't have been anything. I just had the idea, they made it all happen.”

The categories for the competition were: major entertainment, short entertainment, documentary, music, PSA/commercial, special effects/animation, news, and sports. The competition took over four theaters of the Showcase Cinemas Multiplex facility and ran from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The students who attended the WCTV-sponsored field trip were: Johnny Brand, Michaela Bottino, Brianna Tavares, Mariah Whitney, Torianna Bunting, Alyssa Santos, Marcus Bennett, Mia Sarkisian, Quinn Staley, Jesse Ruiz, Ariel St. Germaine, Daniel Smith, Jessica Savageau, Abby Wood, Andrew Thompson, and Jesse Sarkisian.

“I went and I thought I wouldn't care about winning but after seeing all the videos from the other schools my competitive side came out and I really wanted our videos to win,” said 10th-grader Torianna Bunting.
