Alleged Lindsey's robbers held on bail

Dec 10, 2014

Two Wareham men along with a Plymouth man were arrested Saturday in connection with the Nov. 9 robbery of Lindsey's Restaurant.

The man from Plymouth -- the alleged "mastermind" of the crime -- installed the security cameras and wi-fi system in the restaurant and allegedly had access to them via his cellphone.

That man, David Reed, 27, of 60 Sandy Pond Road in Plymouth, was arrested at 9:50 a.m. Saturday. Police were led to Reed after executing a search warrant at 107 Cohasset Road in Wareham, where the two other suspects in the unarmed robbery, Eric Morrison, 27, and Michael Fula, 30, resided. Cohasset Road is less than a quarter-mile from Lindsey's.

According to Lindsey's management, two masked men dressed head to toe in black assaulted the night manager and made off with security cameras and "a substantial amount of money" from the safe shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 9.

Lindsey's owner Cheri Lindsey said Reed installed the security camera system in the restaurant four months ago and had been watching the inside of the restaurant to plan the crime.

"He was watching every move we made," Lindsey said. "We feel so victimized. How many others has he done this to?"

Recounting the robbery shortly after its occurrence, Debi Lindsay, a manager and daughter of Cheri, said the night manager who was assaulted couldn't see much, since the men rushed her from behind and pushed her head against the table.

There were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the robbery. The only employees were the night manager and the bartender.

Lindsey said that when the robbers rushed the manager the manager initially believed it was one of the employees playing a joke on her. Then one of the men threw her across the room and said, "This isn't a fu**ing joke." The men then made off with cameras and cash.

According to police reports, during the robbery one of the robbers yelled out "No one told me there would be cameras" and ripped out the surveillance system from the wall.

According to police reports, a Wareham Police K-9 search on the night of the robbery led to 107 Cohasset Road. Also that night, a Wareham patrol officer noticed a vehicle driving in the area several times after the incident. The vehicle was later found parked at 107 Cohasset Road.

Lindsey's was offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robbery suspects. According to the police reports, an anonymous woman called with information about Reed and Fula and said that evidence of the crime was buried in the nearby backyard of a Bourne police officer.

A newly hired Bourne officer lived next door to Fula and Morrison at 103 Cohasset Road and told Wareham detectives about a line of bushes that abuts both properties where items could be buried, according to police reports.

In support of his application for a search warrant, Wareham Det. Bryan Whalen stated there was probably cause to believe evidence of the crime was buried at 107 Cohasset Road, "specifically bank deposit bags, security system DVR box, ski masks, sunglasses and $16,124."

Police said they found evidence of the crime when they executed the search warrant on Dec. 6. Police also reported finding 61 oxycodone pills in a safe that allegedly belonged to Fula.

Morrison, who is the alleged getaway driver according to police reports, was arrested at 107 Cohasset Road.

Fula was arrested at 314 Front Street in Marion and was found with "several orange pills consistent with Suboxone," according to police reports. Fula has a long criminal history including 23 adult arraignments, 13 juvenile arraignments and an active felony warrant for larceny over $250.

When booked at the station, Fula was found in possession of 20 small pills of oxycodone, unused hypodermic needles and $626 in cash, according to police reports.

The three men were ordered held on bail Monday, according to court documents. Their case is continued to Jan. 9.
