Coat drive ensures community will be ready for sweater weather in Wareham
There will be fewer kids shivering in Wareham this winter, thanks to a coat drive presented by the Wareham Public Schools Office of Beyond School Time.
There are more than 200 coats currently at the office, most brand-new and some gently used. Most of the winter coats are for kids of all sizes, though there are some adult coats too.
Christopher Thornell provided many of the coats, offering a free session of chiropractic work to his clients if they brought in a brand-new winter coat. The Onset Bay Association also held a coat drive to contribute to the pile.
New or gently used coat donations are still being accepted. Pat Gagnon, who is in charge of family outreach at the office, said she expects these coats will all be claimed within two weeks.
Thornell said he has been donating coats for around 12 years and has given more than 2,000 coats to members of the community.
Anyone who needs winter coats this year can go to the Office of Beyond School Time in the Multi-Service Center, 48 Marion Road, Room 227, from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. beginning Nov. 30.
Contact the Office of Beyond School Time to arrange another time to pick up coats if necessary at 508-291-3500, ext. 3556.
