Officials file criminal complaint after dog thrown off Onset bridge

An application for criminal complaint has been filed against an East Falmouth man who allegedly threw a dog off the Stone Bridge in Onset on July 27.

Officials from the Wareham Department of Natural Resources responded to the bridge after receiving reports that a man had thrown an American Staffordshire Terrier into the water below before jumping in himself.

While the dog was reported as being uninjured, surveillance footage from an adjacent business shows the animal falling over 12 feet before landing violently.

A natural resource officer conducted a field interview with the suspect, Kevin Ouellette, 51, of East Falmouth at the scene.

Ouellette reportedly told the officer that this was something he did all the time, claiming that the dog "likes it.”

It was later determined that Oullette was not the dog's owner and had taken the animal without permission.

With the assistance of the Animal Rescue League of Boston, the Wareham Police Department and the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office an application of criminal complaint has been filed in Wareham District Court against Ouellette for the following charges:

  • Animal cruelty by custodian
  • Larceny from a building
  • Municipal by-law violation (bridge jumping)
