Boys basketball team is ready to enter a new season
The Wareham boys basketball team is gearing up for what coach Stephen Faniel hopes will be another successful year for the Vikings.
The team took first place in the South Coast Conference last year with 12 wins and only one loss. This year, Faniel said he was optimistic that the team could make it into the conference once again, and perhaps even to the state tournament.
Each year, Faniel said the team has three goals: To win their division, to win the conference, and to win state.
“We are trying to focus on getting better every day, trying to establish our roles and learn how to play together as a team,” said Faniel. “We have plenty of talent but the quicker we learn how to work together as a team, the more successful we will be.”
The Viking’s varsity team consists of 12 players, many of whom are returning from last season. The team is lead by senior captain Bryce Fernandes.
“We are trying to not look ahead at any particular teams. We are trying to focus on ourselves and just improve every day,” said Faniel.
