Roland L. Dastous, 83

Roland L. Dastous, 83, of Wareham, died April 8, 2021. He was the husband of the late Nancy E. (Hebshie) Dastous and the son of the late Dolema M. (Somers) Dastous and Roland Dastous.

He was born in Wareham and grew up in the Parkwood Beach section of town.  He continued to live in Wareham throughout his life. He graduated from Wareham High School in 1955.  

Roland served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1958 aboard the USS Leyte CVS-32. 

Roland worked as a Marine Electrician for Western Geophysical in Houston, TX for many years before retiring. Previously, he worked at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. 

He was a member of the Bourne American Legion Post 230. He enjoyed traveling, and he was a New England Sports fan. He had a great love of the ocean.

Survivors include his daughter, Brenda E. Dastous and her companion, Kevin Porazzo of Wareham; a son, Ronald L. Dastous of Wareham; his sisters and brother, Dolores Perry of East Falmouth, Roberta Besse of Onset, Patricia O’Connor of Sagamore Beach, Donald Dastous and Joyce Tellier both of Buzzards Bay; a grandson, Nathan Peabody; many nephews and nieces; and his cat, Buzzy. He was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Johnson and a grandson, Jacob Peabody.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at Chapman Funerals and Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., (Rte. 28), Wareham. 

His graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Agawam Cemetery, Stillman Memorial Rd. & Great Neck Rd., Wareham. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Roland’s memory may be made to the Bourne American Legion Post 230, c/o 3 Cote Circle, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
