Trick or treat takes over Main Street

Oct 25, 2024

On a clear, crisp, fall afternoon, businesses all along main street opened their doors and handed out candy as kids and adults dressed up in costume for the annual trick or treat down main street.

The event held Friday, Oct. 25 was put on by the Wareham Village Association and President Tracy McGraw was handing out beaded necklaces and glow sticks during the 16th rendition of the event.

"It's great weather and a great turnout and it just brings joy to so many people," said McGraw.

This year, close to 30 businesses were handing out candy McGraw added she even ran out of balloons for businesses to advertise they are handing out candy.

Owner of Gateway Gold and Pawn Dominic Cammarano said he has been doling out sweet treats since o the event began and loves to see the trick or treat tradition kept alive.

"I love seeing the little kids because where we live, not too many kids come to the house but when we were kids, we enjoyed trick or treating so I think this is great," said Cammarano.

McGraw explained putting on a safe and family friendly event for the community is part of what has helped keep this tradition going .

Lauren Lowe, a new Wareham resident was out trick or treating with her 3 year old son Ronan and this was their first time experiencing Halloween in Wareham.

"We just moved here last year during the winter time and it's been really great walking up and down and recognizing other kids from the elementary school," said Lauren.

Wareham residents Colleen and Matthew Kelley were out trick or treating with their 11-month-old son Colton for his first experience trick or treating.

"For a child that's [not even] one year old, doing it at three o'clock in the afternoon is a lot easier and it's better for him," said Matthew.

McGraw concluded that the event was very successful and the only change she sees coming for next year is getting more balloons, more businesses and more people involved.
