Creative creations: Student artists put on multi-media gallery

May 8, 2025

Wareham High School students showed off their musical skills, original creations and creative expression for all to see in the school's annual arts fair.

The fair was held Thursday, May 8 at the high school and featured original student art works using several mediums, musical and theatrical performances and attendees had the opportunity to make art themselves.

Lana Davis is a member of the poetry club at school and was there promoting attendees to write their own poetry in return for a lollipop.

“Poetry club is a fun place where people can come and write whatever,” Davis said. “We don’t limit them to just poetry, you can write songs, short stories, it’s just a place where you can go to express your creative freedom.”

Davis said her favorite parts about poetry have been having a creative outlet that allows her to express her feelings no matter what they are.

“[Poetry] means getting to express how you feel no matter how dark or how happy it is,” she said. “It’s a space where you are safe to express anything and everything.”

Johnny Tompkins is also in poetry club but wasn’t at the fair for the club, instead she had several visual pieces such as collages and ceramics on display.

“My favorite piece was the collage where we got to pick a picture that we really liked and I picked a picture of my parents,” Tompkins said.

She added that having not just her classmates but members of the community see and like her work was rewarding.

“The fact that other people are coming to see it makes you glow a little bit, it makes you feel special,” she said. “

Helping run the fair was art club advisor and art teacher Amanda Sharples who said the fair went well.

Sharples added that the art department offers students the opportunity to use multiple different mediums as an outlet for creative expression.

“I really do feel like we have really good creativity here,” she said. “[Students] can choose whatever they’re interested in and express themselves.”
