Robert “Bob” Oscar Loring, 76
Robert “Bob” Oscar Loring, 76, of North Falmouth, MA passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Born in Wareham, son of the late Thurley F. (Demoranville) and Robert E. Loring.
He grew up in Wareham, MA and graduated from Wareham High School Class of 1966. Lettering in football and track. He received his Bachelor of Science- University of MA - Dartmouth, Class of 1970 lettering in track.
Unknown to most Bob was an accomplished artist. He was very skilled at drawing and made very intricate hand-woven Nantucket Baskets with elaborate whale bone and ivory carved accented lids.
Bob dedicated his professional life to clinical pathology. He worked at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, MA for over 15 years as a medical technologist in the blood bank. He worked at Massachusetts General Hospital for over 20 years, retiring in 2013.
He was an integral part of Monument Beach Sportsman’s Club. He served as a Board of Director for the past 15 years and also took over heading up the Trap Field for the past 10 years. Bob was an avid volunteer at the Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed coaching novice trap shooters, helping with the Women on Target, the Brockton Veterans Visit, the luncheon for the Cape Cod Blind Veterans Group and many other club charity events. Bob always stressed gun safety and safe handling of firearms.
Bob was an avid woodworker. He would spend hours in his woodshop making fine furniture. He also enjoyed making crafted wooden handled knives, boxes and other household items. Bob was a skilled carpenter and Mr. Fix It. Using a hammer, he could build anything. In his retirement he truly enjoyed trap shooting, Fishing the Cape Cod Canal and spending time with his grandchildren.
For 29 years he was the beloved husband of Janet Barrette (Kirkland) Loring. Devoted father of Karren Meyer of Newfane, VT & Peter Barrette of Jupiter, FL. Loving grandfather of Patrick & Ainsley Meyer of Newfane, VT and Summer & Ty Barrette of Jupiter, FL. Dear brother of Steven Loring of Wareham, MA. Fond cousin of Sandy Slavin of Wareham, MA, Diane Fini of West Newbury, MA & Bette Bushnell of South Jordan, UT.
