Lifelong resident joins Cultural Council
When he's not delivering packages around town for UPS, lifelong Warehamite Jordan Gomes now will be serving as a member on the Cultural Council.
Appointed at the Tuesday, Sept. 23 Select Board meeting, Jordan said he was inspired by member Marcus Gomes to apply for the position. Jordan said he was eager to join.
"The opportunity to contribute to the economic growth of our town is very important to me," Jordan said. "As a Wareham native, I was fortunate enough to grow up in this town and take everything it has to offer. It's easy to take it for granted. It seems only right to be able to contribute."
Jordan attended a Cultural Council meeting and said his initial nerves went away with how welcoming the members on the board were.
"It was a very comfortable atmosphere so I felt like that was the place to be for sure," he said.
Jordan is a 2009 graduate of Wareham High School and cites his time as a Viking as part of the reason to why he applied for the position.
Member of the Select Board, Joey Still, said he appreciated the interest Jordan had.
"This is phenomenal that a native is so passionate enough to get up here and speak with us," Still said.
Jordan's term on the council will expire June 30, 2028.
