Decas Elementary gets visit from Ronald McDonald
Students at John W. Decas Elementary got a surprise visit from a familiar face on Thursday: None other than Ronald McDonald.
The McDonalds mascot presented a show about treating each other well. It was part of the company's "Giving Back" program.
The show was about giving back, Ronald McDonald told the kids, and "helping other people and being the best that you can be."
The students were encouraged to share, give time in the form of volunteering, use talents for good, to give gifts (both tangible and intangible), and to have empathy.
"One good idea leads to another good idea," Ronald told the children. "One good deed leads to another good deed."
The children watched Ronald perform magic tricks, and also helped "find the bully," a paper cutout that Ronald hid in hats before mixing up the hats and asking a student to pick the hat the bully was hidden in.
A teacher helped, too, but she could never find the bully.
"Bullies tend to disappear around teachers," Ronald explained. "Tell a teacher" about bullying.
The program was sponsored by Joe Winterhalter, who owns a number of McDonalds restaurants.
